Downtown Postoffice

This is the downtown post office where I live- It's the one I love to go to - I really do not know the history of it- I'll find out and get back to you.
Ok I am back, I went to the library and looked at old articles about Bradenton Post Offices ( There was nothing about the one where I actually get my mail. The one above is my favourite one.
It was opened for business Jan 2nd 1937- It is one of the few building with a basement around.. Some of the boxes are the original bronze combo locks ( later they added the key locks also. The walls are the original dark oak in certain area. The office area upstairs has 9 Oak captains chairs from the 30's original PO.  Next time I go in I'll ask to see the basement :)
In Postcrossing I asked for your worst postcard- the one that sits in your drawer or box that you think no one wants.  Send it my way- I will send you a not so bad one back.

Keep it simple

I have learned to see the simple things recently. Like scratching kitties heads, Old washboards, and the pattern of ferns.  What things do you go by and ignore because it's not showy enough?

Cat Lady

The last time I was in Village of the Arts ( VOTA)  I ran across this lovely lady beside her was a jar of cat food and in front of her a dish of cat food for the stray kitties or other critters.
Here's to the people who help stray and feral cats, the ones who really care and have open hearts.  The ones who know it's not just a cat.

Bright Blessings.

The Cat's Song

The Cat's Song

Mine, says the cat, putting out his paw of darkness.

My lover, my friend, my slave, my toy, says

the cat making on your chest his gesture of drawing

milk from his mother's forgotten breasts.

Let us walk in the woods, says the cat.

I'll teach you to read the tabloid of scents,

to fade into shadow, wait like a trap, to hunt.

Now I lay this plump warm mouse on your mat.

You feed me, I try to feed you, we are friends,

says the cat, although I am more equal than you.

Can you leap twenty times the height of your body?

Can you run up and down trees? Jump between roofs?

Let us rub our bodies together and talk of touch.

My emotions are pure as salt crystals and as hard.

My lusts glow like my eyes. I sing to you in the mornings

walking round and round your bed and into your face.

Come I will teach you to dance as naturally

as falling asleep and waking and stretching long, long.

I speak greed with my paws and fear with my whiskers.

Envy lashes my tail. Love speaks me entire, a word

of fur. I will teach you to be still as an egg

and to slip like the ghost of wind through the grass.

K,

Today I spelled out your name in stones.  I went to the coffee shop to write postcards. and when I came home there was a butterfly on the dirt where we buried you.  I know the empty hole in my heart will lessen in time. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life for 13 plus years.

You belong among the wildflowers

Bert Jansch - Running From Home

I said I like my life. If I have to give it back, if they take it from me,

let me only not feel I wasted any, let me not feel I forgot

to love anyone I meant to love, that I forgot to give

what I held in my hands, that I forgot

to do some little piece of the work that

wanted to come through.

Books

Leaving behind the noise of the plaza, I enter the Library. I feel, almost physically, the gravitation of the books, the enveloping serenity of order, time magically desiccated and preserved. Left and right, absorbed in their shining dreams, the readers. momentary profiles are sketched by the light of their bright officious lamps. My vanity and nostalgia have set up an impossible scene. Perhaps so (I tell myself), but tomorrow I too will have died, and our times will intermingle and chronology will be lost in a sphere of symbols. And then in some way it will be right to claim that I have brought you this book, and that you have accepted it.
